From The Desk Of Professional Handicapper Kelso Sturgeon…

College football resumes another early week tonight with games scheduled ever day—11 to be exact.
On Saturday things get truly serious with true showdown games with conference championship
implications. Number nine Indiana (4-0) is at #3 Ohio State (3-0), #10 Wisconsin 2-0) at #19
Northwestern (4-0), #7 Cincinnati (7-0) at traditional power Central Florida. #14 Oklahoma State (5-1) at18 Oklahoma and that is just to name a few that could have an impact on conference titles and even which four teams will play for the national championship.

Meantime, the world watches in wonder as two teams from the outback—down the road less
traveled—the the Liberty Flames from Lynchburg, Virginia and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers from
Conway South Carolina remain unbeaten. Liberty (8-0) has played a decent schedule, has a signature win
at Virginia Tech, 38-35, win as a 17-point underdog, goes for 9-0 at N.C. State (5-3), Saturday as a 3.5-
point underdog. As for the Chanticleers (7-0) they go for broke at home against traditional Sun Belt king,
Appalachian State (6-1), a team that suffered its only loss at #15 Marshall (7-0), 17-7.

While 15 college games were cancelled last weekend, only two—Arizona State at Colorado and Ohio at
Miami-OH—have fallen victim to COVID-19 thus far this week.

On the coaching front, another well-known coach has been fired—South Carolina’s Will Muschanp. USC
became disenchanted with the team’s 2-5 start, including losses in the last three games. Interim coach
will be offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, former head coach at Colorado State. South Carolina is a 6-
point ‘dog at home Saturday.

The first to go this season was the well respected Gary Anderson at Utah State. The Aggies got off to a
poor start, are now 0-4, with former assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Frank Maile now
calling the shots..

Adding to Utah State’s woes was Monday’s announcement starting junior quarterback Jason Shelly was
kicked off the team for a violation of team rules. The Aggies are 18.5 underdog at Wyoming Thursday
night.

For college football devotees, the weekend will be an eyeball feast. Between tonight and Saturday night,
there are 59 games on the schedule—all on national TV.
